I had more time to spend at Bats SF so I went ahead with the assembly.
First up was to install the new studs which involved removing the old ones, chasing the holes, adding some anti seize lubricant and installing the new ones.
Here they are all shiny in their new home!

Next up was installing and torquing down the top end to check the squish with the metal gasket from my last build. Turned out to be way to tight at .011in and the instructions called for .033 to .037in. Luckily the kit comes with a couple different sizes which I stacked and sealed with Yamabond 5 for the desired squish.
First fitting:

Fitted with the right amount of gaskets:

Stage one of the engine build complete!

In a small South San Francisco garage fifteen years ago S.F. Fifty was born ushering in a new era of two stroke specialists with custom tools and knowledge to help anyone looking for help with their 50. Marcus "Mo Powa" Vaperson and Anton "Jenius" Stuart were the first, and the fastest, Aprilia RS50 guys in the Bay Area to start adding Mo Powa with special parts overnighted from Japan and Italy. 4Ari came on board creating Bay Area Two Stroke after riding Vapersons' all white ghost racer RS50 then yelling from the mountaintop "Marcus give me Mo Powa!". It was a two stroke paradise at the time with "Chuck" CN Racing Neves and Cuelo Tech suspension in the neighboring garages who helped with custom suspension and fabrication unseen anywhere in the world at that time. As a group we helped numerous mini racers at Stockton and countless people who came to us after reading Marcus' note posted at Scuderia West about having the fastest RS50 and to call him if they want to race. Everyday we hung out on that street, in those garages, wrenching, bench racing, testing, and watching the great 500's race on TV.

It was in this fiery single ring piston crucible of two stroke awesomeness that the first leak down tester was created specifically for our 50's! It has continued to evolve and change hands over the years as our network of enthusiasts grew along with our needs to build and test more types of engines for leaks. Being the current care taker for this piece of two stroke history is a great honor, but at the same time a great responsibility.

Today I was able to continue the legacy of this extraordinary tool with use on my MetraKit Pro Race motor and freshen it up a bit with new hoses!

And here she is almost ready for installation!

Right on man. That was in South san Francisco. 92 mph on the Melossi 72cc kit. Remember when you saw me on the freeway in the fast lane doing 70mph, you pulled up along side me then I hit the throttle and was OUT!! 92mph on my April. She was a great gal.
Good write up boo boo.
