Default Bats ReStoration 50 named "Marco"

Stumbled across this sad, badly neglected Aprilia RS50 and couldn't resist trying to save it from the junkyard to ride once more!

Our role as preservationists, in this small American 50cc world, will be put to the test as we try and get this endangered species back in its natural habitat.

How's it going?

I'm surprised at how corroded/rusted everything is. Has it been sitting outside near the ocean?

Around here, that would have meant it sat outside over the winter.

It is shocking how similar this Aprilia looks to the Derbi GPR I went to look at. Very corroded and sun faded. It had sat outside for years it looked like. Such a shame to see. I cant wait to see this bike get brought back from the grave

Sorry for the wait fellas, but I have a ton of projects going on at the same time. I have managed to procure a few tasty bitz for the upcoming build and am in the process of moving bikes around to make room for this project.

Since the bike has "high miles" for an RS50 the entire motor will get a rebuild as part of the restoration. Here is the tried and true pink Top kit, Polini bearings/seals, and Motoforce race crank.

Is the the 80CC Top Performance or the 75CC?

For anyone thinking about which cylinder to buy for street application. This is the kit we used when we rode our bikes from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Most of the way was freeway 65+ mph the whole way.

Can you give us additional build info on these engines that you guys stacked the miles on? Just curious about which parts were used and if they proved reliable. Rides like that are a damn good reliability test.

I will be pulling the motor on Marco soon so you can see first hand how we put our years of experience with these bikes to use and create a reliable, fast RS50.

Both motors for that ride used the "pink" Top Performance kit you see pictured in this thread. We have used this kit on all of our RS50's since the inception of Bats over a decade ago. We used them for the SF to LA ride, Racing at Stockton, and thousands of regular street miles around the bay area. Both bikes used the stock crank for that ride. Mine had the 21mm DO with stock airbox, but Ari's had the 24mm MK with pod filter and we found the 21mm with stock airbox was the way to go.

FYI, the "Pink" kit was commonly thought to be 75 or 80cc, but I think it's closer to 72cc.
