Default Project: 1978 Batavus Starflite

NOTE: This was posted on another forum & I'm moving it to this board.

Welp, time to take a break from working on my main boo, a 1991 BMW 325i, to work on this:

It's a 1978 Batavus Starflite VA II Moped, M-48(cc) 2-stroke engine.

It will be getting completely disassembled, cleaned, sanded, painted/plated, and reassembled with fresh hardware.

More to come...

Don't mind my messy garage. Sanded fenders & exhaust.

Sanded head light assembly.

UPDATES: Almost every piece has been cleaned and/or sanded. Lots of pieces have paint but none have been wet-sanded or polished.

Last one for tonite, dirty little bastard:

How it sits as of March 2013:

Fresh paint on the frame, the tank was primed by myself but I decided to send the tank, and body panels off to get stripped & professionally painted instead. Cleaned and conditioned seat. I'll be getting new tires and the wheels plated chrome this summer.

Heres more pics:

Painted frame and new belt:

Default It Runs!

Getting it together

Leaky petcock, have to find a new one.

All the electrical components work and I managed to wire everything up correctly.

First running since pulling the thing apart. Had a few hiccups like forgot to torque the spark plug and carb Lol! Kind of bogs on the low end, looking at an exhaust pipe to fix that on Treatland.
Video: (rattling license plate)

Also, while riding around on it, I passed by some guy's garage and he had a shit ton of mopeds and parts. He gave me a new clutch cable, a smaller sprocket for the wheel, and a stock Puch exhaust to mess around with, only 5 minutes after meeting him. It was awesome!
Now I just need to get the body panels painted or powdercoated, I cant decide.

Got it running better. Got a new NGK boot, a OMG petcock, & some sweet red fuel line. adjusted the brakes. Contemplating some chrome flat bars. Just need to paint the last body piece, & add some red pinstripes. It's such a blast to ride.
(also may be up for sale once I'm done)
Pic from this morning.

That project looks great. I like the all black stealth look.

Don't worry most of our garages look like that.
