Spent a little time cleaning the carb today.
1st step was taking the PHBG 21 apart to prep for the “dip”

After disassembly all the metal parts went into the basket and then into the Chem-Dip for 10 minutes.

After the Chem-Dip all the parts got a warm water rinse and blow dry. Since I don’t have an air compressor I make due with canned air normally used for cleaning dust out of my mining rigs.

With the metal parts cleaned it was time to clean the plastic bits using a plastic safe solvent and brush.

Everything clean and ready for reassembly!

Debating if I should replace the float bowl with an easy main jet access piece.

Spent some time at the shop today getting TT a little closer to firing up.
The fresh & clean PHBG was first up on the list for today. I removed the cable choke before cleaning and wanted to go with an OEM style actuator with my new setup for simplicity.

Straight forward install even without instructions

After fitting the carb with the choke installed I ran into a clearance issue with the RPM cable.

A quick bend away from the cable and all’s well.

Even with a shorter lever than stock its easy enought to activate by hand just below the factory “choke” label

After the choke was done it was time to adjust the cables to ensure the throttle activates the carb and oil injector pump correctly.
All done!

Cable sorted, next up was the lower portion of the factory airbox which fits together perfectly with this 21mm setup! Looks OEM and should be just as reliable and durable as OEM.

AF1 Air filter for a little better flow and less disintegration than OEM

Air going into TP Ocho Cinco check! Air going out?
Something special, that you may have seen in previous posts or Bats Bikes YouTube, has been hanging above my workbench for years just waiting for the right moment! Behold the Almighty Nickel plated Jolly Moto race pipe!

The JM fits the TP85 exhaust port perfectly without any bushing or adapter.

Sexy Carbon Fiber Silencer

Bling Bling!

With the air in and air out done I had time to finish a few other little odds and ends that I scrounged up from my punch list.

O-ring was perished on the water pump inlet so I had brought one from home to fit.

All buttoned up! Lot’s of Ergal in a small area!

As advised by a professional race mechanic I am using Ergal for all non stressed fasteners and Ti for stressed fasteners. With that in mind I started installing some of the Ti bolts.

Front caliper bolts

Scragilly looking stock rearset bolts.

SBS with stock and Ti

And new Ti installed. The button head bolts on the rear master are also Ti!

Just need fluids and a battery to bring TT back to life!

Today was Stormy Daniels in the bay area so it was a perfect day to spend some time at the shop.
On the list today was fluids and to finish the exhaust.

First up were the exhaust springs.

Next was the silencer mount. I had a sweet custom made one that ended up on our 8hr race bike which I sold, so I’m gonna have to make another one some time soon.
For now the stock hanger will be employed, at least I added some Ti bolts at the frame mount!

Exhaust done, time to work on these!

Trans oil is easy although I do take my time and fill little by little, spinning the trans assembly along the way, and checking for leaks.

I love the Motul bottles, no funnel needed if you have a steady hand and take your time.

Filled the injection oil.

After filling the injector oil, I bled the pump of air to ensure proper function when started.

Filled the cooling system with my secret mixture of Water Wetter, Motocool, and Distilled water. Bled the air from the system at the top of the return hose.

Just ordered one of those super lightweight batteries from Amazon that we are using on Newd, so once that arrives it will be time to fire up TT for the first time in a few years!

I especially like the prayer to the 2 stroke gods before start up.
